"Manito" by Pop Wagner
Your horse has been a-wondering
Where you've got yourself off to.
You used to come most every day,
But now you never do.
He's seen your friends come stopping by
From almost everywhere,
Even rode him up the mesa,
And he was game though you weren't there.
Now horses, they don't need to mourn
The way us humans do.
He's just sorting some things out
While he's been missing you.
You can tell it's had him thinking some,
And now he understands.
Why, he loaded up so easy!
Don't that just beat the band?
He'll see another pasture now.
He'll join another herd.
With your old saddle on his back
He'll hear soft spoken words.
While Manito's heard this voice before,
He'll not hear yours again.
He knows you're gone; he also knows
You've left him in good hands.
